Background Overview

Background & History

Sawla General Hospital is the only general hospital in Gofa Zone. It was established in 2000 EC and is located about 516 km from Addis Ababa. The hospital serves a catchment population of more than 1,500,000 people and plays a crucial role in providing essential, quality healthcare services to the surrounding communities.

The facility employs a diverse workforce dedicated to high-quality care: 309 health professionals and 171 non-clinical staff. Health professionals include: 8 specialists, 20 general practitioners, 116 general nurses, 30 midwives, 20 health officers, 30 clinical pharmacists and druggists, 22 laboratory professionals, 3 radiology technologists, 2 environmental health professionals, plus 269 supportive staff. Our specialists include gynaecologists, internists, paediatricians, ophthalmologists, surgeons, orthopaedician and pathologists.
